Rahul Gandhi accused the prime minister of lying to people in Amethi about the ordinance factory.
A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of a factory to manufacture advanced AK-203 rifles in Amethi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi claimed that he had inaugurated the ordnance factory in 2010 and accused the prime minister of lying to people. He further asked if PM Modi "feels ashamed at all" for lying.
PM Narendra Modi visited Amethi district in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday where he unveiled an Indo-Russian ordnance factory that will produce the iconic Kalashnikov rifles.
However, Rahul Gandhi accused the prime minister of lying to the people and said, "Prime Ministerji, I had laid the foundation stone for the Ordinance Factory in Amethi in 2010. For the past many years, several small arms have been produced. Yesterday you went to Amethi and because of your habit; you were forced to lie once again. Don't you feel ashamed at all?"
Soon after Rahul Gandhi's attack on PM Modi, Union Minister Smriti Irani slammed the Congress chief for attacking the prime minister with "wrong facts", saying that he did not even bother to check what was being inaugurated in Amethi.
"You are so scared of the development in Amethi that you did not even bother to check that what is being inaugurated in Amethi is an Indo-Russian joint-venture under which the two countries have agreed to manufacture AK-203 rifles," Smriti Irani said.
After unveiling the Indo-Russian ordinance factory in Amethi for the production of AK-203 assault rifles, lashed out at the previous Congress governments, alleging that they kept the defence forces exposed to the enemy's bullets for several years on failing to get commissions in defence deals and to protect the "dynasty".
"They always put personal interest over national interest," he said.
Hitting back to the Congress over the Rafale deal, Modi held it responsible for hindering the IAF from getting the state-of-art fighter jets from France.
