Returning to the constituency after five years, actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada campaigned in Rampur on Sunday. Workers of the BJP, the party she joined recently, were seen trying to attract crowds around the former MP.
Beating drums, showering flower petals, many party workers and local leaders were present when her cavalcade crossed the route.
Sitting in a Mercedes, Jaya Prada donned a pink saree and was seen acknowledging workers and voters.
In an exclusive conversation with Aaj Tak TV, Jayaprada responded to some of the ongoing controversies. "I missed Rampur a lot for five years, so have returned to finish some work," she said.
Replying to sexist remarks by Samajwadi leader Firoz Khan, Jaya said: "Those insulting remarks against me have been thrown since years now, it only reflects their own upbringing and culture."
"The grand alliance is simply political opportunism. I feel pity for Mayawati that joined hands even with rival Akhilesh Yadav only in an attempt to stop Narendra Modi," she added.
Reacting to 'Main Bhi Chowkidaar' campaign, she said: "Watchman is a protector. Hence, Modi ji is also a protector - of the nation."
Interestingly, Jaya Prada had no response to a question that the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi, that she chose to pay tributes to in Rampur, was constructed by her current rival contender - Azam Khan. This was the last question she took and chose not to respond further.
