HIGHLIGHTS
- Man dragged on car's bonnet as vehicle moves dangerously through traffic
- Comes to standstill; man thrashes windshield in anger as passersby stare
- Driver arrested after tormenting man for 2 kms
Seen from behind, the car's careening path is proof enough that something is horribly wrong. Then you see the man on the bonnet.
He clung on, missing one slipper, his bare foot dangling perilously above the road, as his tormentor weaved the car in and out of placid Wednesday traffic in Ghaziabad.
Two people standing at an intersection framed by high-rises flinched as the car swerved menacingly in their direction, just before it came to a stop. (Scroll down for video.)
A video posted by ANI runs for less than a minute, but the news agency says this went on for two kilometres.
The poor detenu on the bonnet refused to unpeel himself from the stationary car. He gave a windshield a few hearty whacks with what looked like his missing slipper.
Passersby stood around and stared.
The video ends with the furious man still leaning on the car, his right leg still climbing the bonnet in righteous anger.
Watch.
In recent months, there have been other reports of people -- law enforcement officials, in fact -- being given gratuitous rides on bonnets in the NCR.
In Haryana's Gurgaon, to be precise.
A police constable there clung to a speeding Hyundai Verna's wiper this month when its driver did not heed an order to stop.
A Special Police Officer who was previously in the Army was dragged for 200 metres on New Year's Eve.
Also last month, video showed a car driving right into a traffic cop's legs, lifting him off the road -- and onto a bonnet.
