HIGHLIGHTS

  • Earlier this week, Donald Trump referred to Tim Cook as Tim Apple
  • Tim Cook has now changed his name to "Tim Apple" on Twitter
  • However, the Apple logo can only be seen by Mac and iOS users
Apple CEO Tim Cook is probably one of the most recognised names in the world right now. If you think of Tim Cook, you'll think of Apple, and for US President Donald Trump, that was a little too real. Earlier this week, Donald Trump referred to Tim Cook as Tim Apple, which quite obviously went viral on social media platforms. Tim Cook seems to have embraced the mistake as he changed his name to "Tim Apple" on Twitter soon after.
If you head over to Tim Cook's Twitter account right now, you'll see his name shown as Tim with the Apple logo. However, the Apple logo can only be seen by Mac and iOS users. For everyone else, the name simply reads Tim along with a square box. This is because the Apple logo isn't a Unicode symbol so it fails to render for Android and Windows users.
It began at an American Workforce Policy Advisory Board meeting earlier this week where the US President thanked the Apple CEO for his efforts to bolster the American workforce. "You've really put a big investment in our country," Trump told Cook. He then continued by saying, "We appreciate it very much, Tim Apple."
This was enough for people to start posting their reactions on social media accounts like Twitter and Facebook. In fact, even the President's daughter and White House adviser Ivanka Trump acknowledged her father's mistake and posted a laughing reaction on Twitter.
Notably, this isn't the first time the US President has flubbed people's names like that. He once called Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson "Marillyn Lockheed." This, of course, led to people posting other possible names like Jeff Amazon and Mark Facebook. The Apple CEO is showing off his newly minted name with pride on Twitter now, but he may change it back to Tim Cook soon enough.
