Former Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has managed to grab headlines with an unbelievable celebratory gesture during Marseille's 2-0 win over St Etienne in France's Ligue 1 match on Sunday.
The mercurial striker, a celebrated figure on Instagram, recorded his goal celebration and uploaded it on the popular photo sharing platform mid-match. He grabbed a cellphone from a photographer and shot a mini video of him celebrating the goal with his Marseille teammates.
Balotelli scored as early as the 12th minute as he held off Loic Perrin and came up with an overhead kick to volley the ball home from a corner.
Notably, the video of Balotelli's goal celebration has gone viral online with more than 10 million views on the football star's Instagram page. Balotelli has been in fine form for Marseille as the Italian striker has scored four goals in six games since joining the side from Nice in January.
Balotelli though is not the first player to record a goal celebration during a live match. In 2015, former Roma and Italy striker Francesco Totti took a photograph of himself celebrating a goal against their cross-town rivals Lazio.
Balotelli's strike followed by Florian Thauvin penalty made sure Marseille clinched a 2-0 win over St Etienne and consolidated their fourth spot on the Ligue 1 table. Notably, Marseille have 44 points from 27 games, a point more than St Etienne.
Earlier in the afternoon, Olympique Lyonnais forward Moussa Dembele struck two second-half goals to round off a thumping 5-1 win over visitors Toulouse in their clash at the Groupama Stadium.
Lyon are now five points behind second-placed Lille, who won 1-0 at home to Dijon, and 22 adrift of runaway leaders Paris Saint Germain, who have 71 points.
