Reliance Jio, the company that made headlines for launching country's cheapest feature phone with smart abilities in 2017, is going to launch a new phone this year. After bringing JioPhone and JioPhone 2 to the masses, Jio is planning to launch JioPhone 3 this year.
A company executive in an exclusive report to a new website has said that the company could launch a JioPhone 2 successor called JioPhone 3 in June this year. The executive also said that the pre-orders for the phone could begin from July and the shipments may start in August.
Rumours around the JioPhone 3 suggest that the phone could see some major upgrades over its predecessors. One of the significant improvements would be the display. JioPhone comes with a T9 keypad, JioPhone 2 has a QWERTY keypad and now the JioPhone 3 is said to come with a touchscreen display.
Here is a quick rundown of everything that is rumoured or expected from the JioPhone 3.
-- Display: The JioPhone 3 will come with a 5-inch screen. To recall, JioPhone and JioPhone 2 ships with a 2.4-inch display. JioPhone 3's bigger screen size will mark a radical change from the previous phones.
-- Design: The JioPhone looks like a typical feature phone while the JioPhone 2 has a closer resemblance to the BlackBerry. The JioPhone 3 could look somewhat like the Lyf smartphones that came with 4 or 5-inches of touchscreen display. The JioPhone and JioPhone 2 come with an all-plastic body. Considering the price bracket within which the JioPhones fall, chances of plastic body in JioPhone 3 cannot be ruled out.
-- Battery: JioPhone 2 is powered by a 2000mAh battery. The JioPhone 3 may come with up to 3000mAh battery size possibly.
-- Camera: The JioPhone 3 is expected to come with a 5-megapixel rear camera, and a 2-megapixel selfie camera.
-- Operating system: The previous JioPhone and JioPhone 2 run on KaiOS but the JioPhone 3 could be different this time. The reports have it that the phone could run Google's Android Go OS. The phone will have 2GB RAM.
-- Storage: The phone will ship with 64GB of storage which will be expandable via microSD card.
-- Price: JioPhone 3 will be the costliest of all JioPhones. The phone will sell at Rs 4500.
-- Availability: The phone is said to launch in June this year. Pre-bookings could start by July and shipping from August. The JioPhones 3 will be sold offline.
