Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman's parents get standing ovation on flight

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman will be released today.
Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman's parents received a standing ovation and round of applause from the passengers of a flight they were travelling in. As a gesture of respect and appreciation, the passengers clapped, cheered and waited for them to deboard the aircraft first.
Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman's father, Retd Air Marshal Simhakutty Varthaman, and mother reached New Delhi on Thursday evening. The two will reach Amritsar today to receive their son at the Wagah-Attari border in Punjab's Amritsar.

On Thursday, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced that the country will be releasing the captured Indian pilot as a gesture of goodwill.
Speaking at the Pakistan National Assembly, Imran Khan said that the India-Pakistan situation should not "get out of hand" otherwise "Pakistan will have to retaliate".

"The only purpose of our strike (on India on Wednesday) was to demonstrate our capability and will. We did not want to inflict any casualty on India as we wanted to act in a responsible manner," Imran Khan said.
Imran Khan's announcement came hours after Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the Pakistan's prime minister was ready to talk to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi to de-escalate tensions between the two neighbours.
Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was reportedly captured on February 27 after his MiG-21 Bison was hit by the Pakistan Army across the Line of Control (LoC).
Tensions spiked between two countries after the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing that killed 40 CRPF troopers in Jammu and Kasmir's Pulwama on February 14. India, in retaliation, carried out pre-dawn raid strikes on a JeM terror camp in Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and killed a large number of terrorists and their trainers.
