An encounter broke out on Friday between security forces and militants in Sopore town of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said. A militant was killed in the gunfight that took place in Warpora village.
Upon receiving a tip-off about the militants, security forces started a cordon and search operation.
"As the cordon around the hiding militants was tightened, they fired at the security forces triggering the ongoing encounter," the police said.
Authorities have suspended mobile internet services in Sopore and adjoining areas.
Restrictions have also been imposed in the town to maintain law and order.
Earlier on Monday, security forces had gunned down the mastermind of the Pulwama terror attack along with two other terrorists of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in a fierce encounter in which a major and four other security personnel were also killed.
