Redmi is now an "independent brand". Without much delay, Xiaomi on Thursday started the business with its new independent brand and launched the Redmi Note 7 with a camera that comes with 48-megapixel sensor. Also inside the Redmi Note 7 is the Snapdragon 660 processor. For now the Redmi Note 7 has been launched in China at a price of around Rs 10,500, and it is possible that the India launch of the phone could be in a few weeks from now.
Compared to the previous Note phones Xiaomi has played around with the design of the Redmi Note 7. It is the first Note device to come with gradient finish like some of the new Honor, Huawei or Realme phones. The Redmi Note 7 has been launched at a starting price of 999 yuan, which roughly translates to Rs 10,500. This price is for the 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage model.
Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Note 7 in three models in China. The base model comes with 3GB RAM/32GB of internal storage, the second one comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage, which is priced at 1199 (roughly around Rs 12,400). The top-end model of the Redmi Note 7 comes with 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage which has been priced at 1399 yuan (roughly translated to Rs 14,500).
As far as the specs are concerned everything is in line with rumours. The Redmi Note 7 comes with 6.3-inch full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and screen resolution of 1080p. The Redmi Note 7 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 660 AIE chipset paired with up to 6GB Ram and 64GB of storage. Notably, the hardware is similar to what we have seen in the Vivo V11 Pro which retails for Rs 25,990 in India. The Redmi Note 7 comes packed with a big 4,000mAh battery.
On the camera front, the Redmi Note 7 includes two cameras on the rear panel while on the front there is a single camera. On the rear panel, the Redmi Note 7 includes a primary sensor of 48MP with f/1.8 aperture while the secondary 5MP sensor is for capturing depth shots aka portrait photos with blurred background. Another good news for the Redmi fans is that with the Redmi Note 7 Xiaomi finally brings USB Type C support. And thankfully, the phone also includes a headphone jack.
As far as the design of Redmi Note 7 is concerned it is quite different compared to the other Redmi Note phones. Overall, the phone looks pretty similar to the Mi Play which was launched in China in December. The Redmi Note 7 comes with gradient finish on the back. Notably, the Redmi Note 7 is the first Note device from Xiaomi to come with waterdrop notch display which is circular in fashion similar to the Mi Play.
The Redmi Note 7 is the first phone launched under the "independent" Redmi brand. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has announced that from now on Redmi will function as a separate brand from Mi. Jun also revealed that all the phones launching under the Redmi brand will be affordably priced and focus mainly on online sales. While on the other hand, the Mi or Xiaomi brand will focus on launching mid and high end or flagship phones.
