India's recent success in the one-day international series in New Zealand saw them take the numero uno position in the list of teams with the most victories in ODIs in the last four years.
India beat New Zealand by 7 wickets in the third ODI in Mount Maunganui on Monday to take an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. The last two wins also saw India overtake England to register the most wins in the format since the ICC World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand.
India has become the most successful team since the showpiece event with 53 wins in ODIs and has the best win percentage of 67.09. England is second on the list with 51 victories (with a 66.23 win percentage) followed by South Africa (41), New Zealand (39) and Pakistan (35).
Interestingly, world champions Australia, who will be defending their World Cup title in England later this year, are placed 7th on the list with 29 wins, even behind Bangladesh and Afghanistan who have 30 managed wins each since the 2015 World Cup.
During this four-year time period, India has defeated South Africa and New Zealand 8 times, Australia and Sri Lanka 7 times, West Indies and Zimbabwe 6 times, Bangladesh 4 times, Pakistan and England 3 times and won against Hong Kong once.
India's convincing win over New Zealand in the third ODI saw the team register its 14th ODI series win in this period. It was also the team's third successive series win after West Indies (3-1) and Australia (2-1) while they also won the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates last year under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
Since the 2017 Champions Trophy final loss to Pakistan, India has won 10 one-day bilateral series with just the one loss coming against England last year.
The superb form that the team is in right now has translated in a lot of success for Virat Kohli as captain. The 30-year-old now has the second highest win percentage among captains who have led in a minimum of 25 ODIs.
Kohli has won 47 out of the 63 matches he has lead in and has a winning percentage of 74.60, which is only behind West Indies legend Clive Lloyd, who had a win percentage of 76.19 with 64 ODI wins out of 84 as captain.
Kohli, who has been rested for the final two ODIs and T20I series against the Blackcaps, also became the fifth Indian batsman to hit a minimum of 100 fifty-plus scores in List A cricket (domestic and international 50-over matches) on Monday.
Kohli joins an elite list of cricketers, which includes four other Indian batsmen. Sachin Tendulkar is on top of the Indian list with 174 50-plus scores in List A cricket. Rahul Dravid (133), Sourav Ganguly (128), and MS Dhoni (101) are part of the list.
Kohli hit a 74-ball 60 in India's successful run-chase of 244 against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui.
The skipper, who walked into the middle after the early dismissal of Shikhar Dhawan, stitched a 114-run stand with vice-captain Rohit Sharma, who also became the 10th Indian batsman to score at least 10,000 runs in List A cricket.
Rohit, who will be leading the team in Kohli's absence now in New Zealand, became the fourth fastest (260 innings) after Kohli (219 innings), Sourav Ganguly (257 innings) and Sachin Tendulkar (260 innings) to get to the milestone.
During his knock of 62 runs off 77 balls, Rohit hit two sixes which saw him equal MS Dhoni's record for most sixes for India in one-day internationals. Though MS Dhoni has hit a total of 222 sixes in 337 ODIs, only 215 of those have been hit for India. Rohit now has 215 sixes in 199 ODIs.
