The voter turnout in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019 varied with many scoring above 80 per cent, while many struggled to reach even 60 per cent. The first phase of general elections was held on April 11 in 91 constituencies spread across 20 states and Union territories in India.
Bihar recorded lowest in terms of voter turnout with a mere 50 per cent eligible electors voting for 2019 Lok Sabha polls. At 81.80 per cent, the highest voter turnout was recorded in Tripura.
West Bengal, where only two Lok Sabha seats went to polls out of 42, recorded the second highest voter turnout with a polling percentage of 81 per cent.
Uttar Pradesh, where eight Lok Sabha seats out of total 80 went to polls in the first phase, saw 63.69 per cent voter turnout.
Both -- Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh -- recorded same voter turnout with 56 per cent. Seven Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra out of total 48 went to polls in the first phase of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while, only one seat out of 11 in Chhattisgarh went to polls on Thursday.
Andhra Pradesh, where all 25 seats went to polls in the first phase, recorded a turnout of 76.69 per cent as compared to 74.64 per cent in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
In Telangana, where all the 17 Lok Sabha seats went to polls in the first phase, recorded 60 per cent polling percentage. Odisha recorded 68 per cent voter turnout in the phase I of 2019 general elections.
Jammu and Kashmir, where two seats went to polls, recorded voter percentage of 54.49 per cent voter.
Assam, where five seats went to polls on April 11, recorded 68 per cent voter turnout.
In Mizoram, where the entire state went to polls in a single phase, recorded a 1.95 per cent dip in turnout as compared to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
The lone seats in Nagaland and Sikkim recorded a polling percentage of 78 per cent and 69 per cent, respectively, in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019. The polling percentage in Manipur for first phase stood at 78.20 per cent.
Meghalaya, where the entire state went to polls in the first phase, recorded voter turnout of 67.16 per cent. In Arunachal Pradesh, where both the constituencies - Arunachal Pradesh East and Arunachal Pradesh West - went to polls, the turnout stood at 66 per cent as compared to 86 per cent in 2014.
Union territories -- Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep -- recorded 70.67 per cent and 66 per cent, respectively.
